Stone Therapy

GETTING STONED’
About Stone Therapy:

Stone Therapy is an ancient healing art that was just recently rediscovered. Its modern form came in 1994 when a massage therapist from Tucson, AZ brought it back to life. Since then it very quickly became the most influential and demanded treatment in the SPA industry in North America and had taken many forms.

Stone therapy is a type of thermotherapy. It uses deep penetrating heat from smooth basalt rocks and alternating cold from marble stones. Physiological benefits of alternating temperatures to the body have long been scientifically and medically proven.

Stone therapy goes beyond the physical experience of typical massage, and enters deeper dimensions of relaxation, health and well being. Truly “Body-Mind-Spirit” philosophy unfolds in it.

Stone Therapy is an exclusive ‘vascular gymnastics’ of circulatory system. It improves work of lymphatic and immune systems, normalizes body functions, and assists your body in self healing. It also affects the sensory system which stimulates production of neuro-chemicals that brings sense of well-being.

The ultimate goal of the therapy is relaxation that will bring balance and alleviate chronic and acute problems.

...You begin your journey by reclining on a series of flat hot and cool stones, covered by a thick towel, that trace your spine. Your skin welcomes their therapeutic energy like ripples in a pool of water. Within minutes, your body and mind begin to trust and respond to the sensations. Your breathing slows as oils are applied to your skin, the therapist, with hot stones in hands, rhythmically glide across your meridian lines. The waves of heat surprise your senses, quickly converting to bliss.

Starting at the foot, the stones move up your leg, along the side the torso and up the arm, right to your fingertips, all in a delicate, non-stop ritual. Next, your chest and shoulders receive the same mindful practice. Large stones are cradled in your palms and coin-sized stones are lightly wedged between your toes. You completely lose track where the therapist's hands end and the velvety-soft stones begin.

Heated Chakra stones align and balance chief energy centres, sending their healing properties deep to your core. As the first half of the treatment concludes, your body feels there is more to come.

As you gently turn to rest upon your stomach, a large, flat hot stone is carefully placed on the cotton blanket, just above the tail bone supported by the sacrum. The sequence of synchronized movements follow the peaks and curves of your body, careful not to cross your spine or come in contact with bones and joints. Cool stones are placed on key areas to alleviate stress. More heated stones caress and massage every inch of your body with warmth and sedation.

Your senses detect the ritual clicking of stones, followed by the meditative deep breathing of the therapist, who guides you through the treatment to a world beyond. It's as if Mother Nature is healing you with her own tender hands...

Nina is using 46 basalt heated stones and 6 marble cold stones in her basic introductory treatment that usually lasts for 60-75 minutes. This therapy can last for over 2 hours with use of more elaborate techniques and cold stones and different layouts of stones for different needs of a client.

The basalt stones are heated to the temperature of 125 - 135C in an 18-qoart roaster-oven. The marble stones are cold but not frozen. This combination of stone compositions and temperatures brings truly unique experience and take you on journey.

All stones in the basalt set serve different purposes - some are used for the layouts (mainly back layouts), palm rest stones, 7 Chakra stones are for bringing balance to Chakra centers, others are used in massage. There is even a governor in a set - the sacrum stone. These heated stones by giving their heat and electromagnetic energy to your client virtually ‘feed’ the person, relaxes and bring sense of peace. The polycrystalline structure of basalt stones allows the heat waves slowly distributes the warmth and attract all the blood to the surface - to the skin. Everything slows down in your body. The strokes of warm stones feel like loving mother’s hands - soothing and caressing. Mother Earth caresses you herself - basalt stones are from the Mother Earth. Peace takes you over and you embrace it. All the stress and the negative realities of life are dissipating at that time. You are at peace with yourself and the surrounding world. That’s when you truly regenerate and recover. Stones are your guides in the miracle of self healing. That is what this therapy is all about!

The cold marble stones are the key element of the Stone Therapy. The coolness from the stones penetrates deep and fast due to its chemical composition and monocrystalline structure. They feel fresh and cleansing, like the a fresh breeze in the mountains. This freshness is welcomed after the heat of basalt stones. They dissipate all physical, emotional and psychological stress. They bring clarity to you. These are the true healers.

This therapy is sensational. It takes you to dimensions of your self that you were not aware of. Truly, you become one with The Mother Earth and The Father Sky - you are the Universe… This is the therapy for todays over accelerated rhythm of life and subsequent amount of stress people carry on their shoulders and in their hearts. It teaches you how to be yourself again. Feel happy and free.

Do not try to squeeze this therapy between meeting or lunch break - you will not want to go back. After the Stone Therapy you need time to re-acquaint with your new self, you need space to explore it and relieve the moments of being one with stones. It is beautiful, it is all about love…

Chinese Medicine

Acupuncture is part of the Traditional Chinese Medicin, but is also used according to other models of explanation. Acupuncture normally means insertion of needles at certian points in the skin.

Acupuncture is a method of threatment which has been used within the Traditional Chinese Medicin for thousands of years.

The word acupuncture was created at the end of the 17th century when the method had reached Europa via China-missioning Jesuits. It comes from the latin words acus (needle) and pungere (to prick). The original name for acupuncture, Chen Chin, means prick and burning, and the method could also be called 'aku-moxi-therapy'.

Acupuncture means that certain defined points on the body are stimulated. Today there are several different kinds of acupuncture partly based on different theorethical models of explanation, but also characterized by different means used for stimulating the points: with needles which is the common form of acupuncture, burning of herbs (moxibustion), vacuum (vacupuncture or cupping), sound vibrations (sonopuncture), laser acupuncture, electro acupuncture m.m. Special variaties are ear acupuncture and mouth acupuncture. In the following we are going to describe mainly the Chinese acupuncture and the western variaty and electro acupuncture. Moxibustion, laser therapy and cupping are described under separate headings. Ear acupuncture is found under the heading Auriculotherapy.

Traditional Chinese acupuncture
In China a long time ago was discovered that stimulation of certain points on the skin could affect different organs and functions in the body and in this way it was possible to regulate different disturbances. (The same discovery has also been done in other parts of the world, which has resulted in different therapies.) Up to know about 2 000 points, so called stimulation or acupuncture points, has been detected. Of these about 360 relatively common in treatment.

From this experience of the effect of the points a theory about channels between them, the so called meridians (chin) was put together. In these channels the life energy, chi or qi, is flowing. Chi is everywhere in the body, but is concentrated to the meridians. At the acupuncture points this energy reaches the body surface and is more easily accessible for treatment.

The purpose with acupuncture treatment is to affect the flow of energy in the boydy: to loosen up energy blockings, lead an overflow of energy from some areas to areas with to little energy. The aim is to reach energetic balance.

The earliest known acupuncture needles where made of stone or splinters . Later bone, bamboo, porcelain and various metalls as e.g. gold, where used. Today mainly thin needles of stainless steel with a small handle of copper are used. Sometimes is also used a small hammer with several small needles applied on the head of the hammer.

The acupuncture needle is applied so that it reaches the level where the 'de qi' sensation starts. De qi means approxiametly to reach qi (chi) and is speciell feeling which arises when the needle hits exactly on the acupuncture point. Depending on the purpose of the treatment - dispersing (scattering) or tonifying of energy - the needle can be stimulated with various rotating or vertical movements. Sometimes the needle is removed as soon as de qi has resulted, sometimes it is left there for a while.

Treatment with acupuncture is given after diagnosis according to the diagnostic methods of the Chinese medicine, (see Chinese Diagnostics) and the theories about Yin and Yang, the five elements, and so on. There are various ways of treating with acupuncture: from clear treatment of symptoms with the help of local points, to a general balansing of the body energies, which is the method of treatment wich use to be called Classical acupuncture. The traditional acupuncture is used for prevention and treatment of a large number of physical and psychical problems.

Non-traditional acupuncture
The header non-traditional acupuncture is referring to the more recent model of explanation of the results from acupuncture mainly at reduction of pain, wich today is accepted within the allopathy medicin. Acupuncture according to this model is very diffent from the traditional Chinese acupuncture and it is therefore important to stress the differences.

This model of explanation does not use terms as 'flow of energy, Yin and Yang' etc. Instead the effects of acupuncture are explained with a local hampering of pain signals in the spinal marrow; that inwards leading nerve threads are activated through which conversions in various pain regulating control systems within the nerve system are brought about. Pain killing subjects (endorphins), produced by the body itself, can be produced or released and have a pain killing effect. Psychologigal mechanisms are also believed to trigger signal activities in some nerve paths.

Acupuncture treatment according to these theories is done on the basis of usual diagnostics within the conventional medical service and could be classified as treatment of symptoms.

Electro acupuncture
Electro acupuncture began to be used in China in the 1950s. The needles are used as electrodes: via the shaft electric current is applied to increase the stimulating effect. The current is spreading in the tissues and could start nerve impulses in nerve threads even at a certain distance from the needle.

The instruments existing today for measuring the electrical resistance of the skin can also be used to find the acupuncture points - these has shown to have another electrical resistance than surrounding tissues.

Can Acupuncture Be Effective When Other Treatments Have Failed?
Absolutely! Each system of medicine has its own areas of greatest effectiveness. Acupuncture excels in those areas in which conventional medicine comes up short. Chronic disease, pain control, and stress related disorders are three of acupuncture and Oriental medicine's specialties.

Lasertherapy means the use of pure and koncentrated Light to affect tissues and functions of the body.

The word 'laser' are the put together, first letters in Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation. A laser machine emits a ray of pure light of a single colour (electromagnetic waves), where the waves of light have the same frequency and wavelength and reproduces themselves almost parallell. The light from a laser kan be emitted in the form of a thin, konceentrated ray, which could be either continuing or pulsating.

The Laser has been developed during the 20th century, and in 1960 the first laser for medical use was produced. Living cells reacts differently on different kinds of light, and the laser is today used in different ways in connection with medicine:

- Cutting lasers at 10-100 watt are used as scalpel and to destroy tissues (only to be used by doctors and dentists with specialist competence).

- Burning, bleaching lasers at 1-10 watt with which e.g birthmarks can be burned away.

- Bio-stumulating lasers at 1-10 milliwatt are used by among others, skin therapists for threating acne and scars, and by physio therapists for threating sports injuries among other things.

In Sweden All laser equipment must be type approved by Statens Provningsanstalt and applied with warning mark and type approval number. All lasers, exept the weeker ones of the bio-stimulating type, must also be approved by Statens Strålskyddsinstitut (SSI).

There are different types of lasers depending on which subjects are part of the machine and which determines which wavelength the laser gets. Those who normally are used by skin- and physio therapists are HeNe-laser (helium-neon, kontinuing red light) and GeAs-laser (gallium-arsenide, pulsating invisible light).

The Laser light is a form of electromagnetic radiation. Some of the radiation penetrating the body tissues are transformed to other forms of energi, as thermal (heat-), chemic, mechanic or kinetic (motive-) energi. The major part is absorbed as heat, which can be tranformed to movement. The transfer of the electromagnetic waves from the radiation could accordingly trigger various processes in the body to stimulate healing of various disturbances i the body tissues.

The bio-stimulating laser - the one of interest in alternative medicine use - is supposed to have the following effects on the body :

- increased bloodflow,

- increased healing of wounds and reduced scar formation (cicatrization),

- icreased metabolism in the cells through increased permeability,

- joint- and muscle pains are counteracted,

- the immune defence is stimulated.

Laser is also used as a form of acupuncture threatment. When certain parts of the body are suffering from great lack of energy at more difficult problems, needle acupunctur is not always considered enough. The body then must be supplied with energy from outside, to get the strength to repair itself. Electromagnetic radiation, as in the laser, is a form of energy which the body can emulate. Normally the HeNe-laser are used on the acupuncture points to add energy to these.

Auriculotherapy means that You effect parts of the body in a reflexological way by stimulation of points on the ear.

Auriculotherapy means treatening of certain points on the external ear (auricula = ear-conch), usually by acupuncture or massage. The method to stimulate points on the ear at sickness is known both from the old Egypt and the traditional chinese medicine. In the classical scripture Nei Ching says that all meridians are measured in the ear, and that this is the meeting-point for all energies. In Egypt treatment of the ear among other things as a contraceptive method: to cut or prick at certain places on the ear could leaad to sterility. Hippocrates mentioned ear treatment and considered it to help against sciatica pain.

The French doctor Paul Nogier created the conception of auriculotherapy and developed the more modern variety of the method in the 1950s and 1960s. Nogier found out about the method when he discovered that patients at his clinic having been treated by practitioners in Algeria and there being burnt on a certain point in the ear against sciatica pain, had got rid of the pain. Nogier then started to map the connection between points on the external ear and different organs and illnesses. He presented the theory that the whole body is represented in the ear, and that the treayment is working reflexological. The ear reflects the body in the shape of a foetus turned upside-down.

Other French doctors working with acupuncture became interested in Nogier's theory and continued the development. Today there exist both a French and a Chinese school within the auriculotherapyw, with partly different localisation of points. In China the method in its current form has been used since 1956. More than 200 different points on the ear have been located, of which 73 are used most.

The most common way of treatment is acupuncture on the ear. The points here are smaller in diameter than the points situated along the meridians of the body. At the same time the are located very close to each other. The points in the ear can be found in different ways:

- via electronic instruments responding when a reflex point is electrically active, which is said to indicate a disturbance in the corresponding organ of the body,
- the ear could be sinsible for pressure on the point which need to be treated,
- the looks of the ear is studied, regarding blisters, chaps, red dots etc.

The points on the ear are with other words used both for diagnosis and for treatment. Auriculotherapy is used as a preventative treatment, as a supporting means at detoxification and cure from different dependancy drawing substances, and at pain reducing, anaesthesia and treatment of disturbances of various body functions.

Moxibustion means stimulation of acupuncture points with the help of heat.

Moxibustion means thermic stimulation of acupuncture points and is included in the very conception of acupuncture, - acu-moxi-therapy is the name for the both methods together. (Incidentally, a technique similar to moxibustion has been used in the nordic folk medicine).

The Chinese moxibustion means that small cones of the herb mugwort (artemisia vulgaris) are placed on specific acupuncture points and then being set on fire. When the cone has burnt down almost completely it is removed. Sometimes used are long cigar-resembling rods of mugwort, which are lit at one end and then being hold directly above the point. A third variety is using a special needle with a small bowl at the top, in which mugwort is placed and then lit. The heat is conducted through the needle which has been applied in the acupuncture point. Moxibustion, which in other words means addition of heat, is used at different 'cold symdroms' and leads to a passing but intensive input of yang-energy.

Acupressure is to press on acupuncture points with the purpose to affect the body energy flow.

Acupressure means affecting acupuncture points along the meridins of the body with the help of pressure instead of needles, moxa (burning of herbs) or other means. The pressure is usually exerted with the fingers.

Axcupressure is part of many systems of treatment from China and Japan which have been founded on the Chinese human conception. The method of acupressure has during recent years especially been developed by Japanese masseurs. It is a common method for e.g., general energy stimulation and self-treatment. Some known methods in which acupressure is included as an essential technique is energy massage, Jin Shin Do, Jin Shin Jyutsu and shiatsu.

Meridian massage is a way of trying to stimulate the body energy flow by following the extension of the meridians with the hands.

Meridians are energy flows in the body, along which there are acupuncture points situated.

Meridian massage means 'drawing' the meridians with the hands, i.e. following the extensions of the meridians from the starting point to the terminal point. If all merians are 'drawn', this is done in a specific order according to the so-called Organ Clock. To 'draw' all meridians in their special order is used as a general energy stimulating and strengthening treatment. Meridian massage is also used more specifically to strengthen or disperse energy in the body diagnosed according to theories of the Traditional Chinese Medicine. Meridian massage is sometimes also combined with coordnated breathing. The method is part of Body Balancing (see this method). Despite its simplicity in performance, the method should be used with caution and competence.

Homeopathy is a medical system based on the principal that similar cures similar (similia similibus curentur). Above all, potentization of remedies is used to stimulate the self-healing functions of t

The word Homeopathy origins from the Greek words homoios (similar) and pathos (suffering), and the fundamental idea of the method is that similar cures similar. Homeopathy began to develop during the end of the 18th century, even if certain fundamental ideas have been known earlier in the Indian and Oriental medicine and also have been mentioned by medical personages like Hippokrates and Paracelsus.

'From what is similar arises sickness, and from use of what is similar sickness is cured'

Hippokrates in 'About human nature'

Christian F Samuel Hahnemann (1755-1843) is however considered the founder of Homeopathy. He was a practising doctor, but gradually became more and more critical to elements in the, at that time, common art of healing, as e.g., the frequent use of blood-letting and purgative. When he was working with translation of a medical work, he noted that the symptoms caused by quinine in a healthy body, were similar to the symptoms quinine was used to relieve.

Hahnemann began practical research on the subject, from the starting point that specific substances causes similar phenomenon in the human body. During a period of twenty years, the mode of operation for about seventy various subjects from the plant-, animal- and mineral kingdoms were mapped. Persons with good health personer were tested with one subject at the time and all reactions and symptoms were noted. In 1796 Hahnemann formulated the principal similia similibus curentur (similar cures similar), and in 1810 he announced the results of his resurch in the work 'Organon der rationellen Heilkunde'.

The line of thought behind that preparations were tested (and still are tested) on humans and not on animals is that the former can register all their symptoms, so that both fysical and mental effects can be mapped.

The mapping has continued after the time of Hahnemann, and today revised versions of his Materia Medica (läkemedelslära)lists 2 000 homeopathic remedies, of which 200 are generally used. In 1879 Constantin Hering (1800-1880) published his work 'Guiding Symptoms' based on 50 years of clinical praktice. Other persons of great importance for the further development of homeopathy are James Tyler Kent (18491916),Pierre Schmidt during the 20th century, and in our time George Vithoulkas, active in Greece.

Homeopathy is today most developed in its´ country of origin; Germany, where it is practised by nature-healers (heilpraktiker)as well as by ordinary doctors. The method is also widely spread in England, the Brittish 'Commonwealth of Nations', certain other european countries and the american continent.

Man and diseases
In homeopathy man is looked upon as an integrated entirety which whole the time is functioning on three different levels: the mental/ spiritual level, the emotional/psychical level and the physical level. The organism always works as an entirety, whether it is sound or affected by pathogenic factors. Illness is a divergence from the normal health condition, and not something isolated in itself. If one stimuli is stronger than the power of resistance of the organism, it will lead to imbalance and various symptoms. The whole therapy of homeopathic medicine is based on analysis of subjective symptoms - it is the sum of symptoms which make up the patients´ completely own illness, and every single case of illness should be individually treated. The basic thought in homeopathy is to stimulate the self-healing powers of the body with various preparations.

The homeopathic remedies
Drugs used within Homeopathy are normally potentiziced, which means that a substance is diluted in several turns. Other kinds of drugs are however also used.

A substance from the plant-, animal- or mineral kingdom is mixed with for example alcohol or milk sugar. The degree of dilution is in Europe indicated by the letter D (deci = one tenth) and a digit. An exception is England, where a centi-grade(C)is used. D1 indicates dilution to one tenth of the original koncentration. To get D2, D1 is diluted 10 turns further, and so on. At D23 the so called Avogadros sum has been reached, when it is no longer possible to detect any moleculs from the original substance in the solution. Physical changes have however been discovered in the media water even in higher dilutions than D23.

The theory behind potentization is that the effect of a drug is inversely proportional to its main component. The energy within a substance is not in the substance itself but in its pattern, and the less of the substance included, the greater the energy of the pattern. This is explained as that some form of energy is formed and increased by shaking the solution rhytmically at the time of dilution. The shaking should take place during a certain time and during special external conditions.

It is also said that potentization increases the power of the electromagnetic fields of the substance. All living organisms and all substances have an electromagnetic field. A substance could influence the individiual in two different ways: either by direct chemical action or by interaction between the electromagnetic fields, provided that the respective frequencies is enough close to each other for a resonance to be possible. In some way the electromagnetic fields of the original substance are transmitted to the molecules of the solution without any change in its resonance frequency.

Not all drugs within Homeopathy are potentizated. Hering has developed the Nosod theory (from the Greek noxe = injury). A Nosod is a drug which has been produced from the pathogenic subject. Nosods are used when treating infectional diseases and allergies. The procedure is similar to the desensitization treatment within the common medical care. Nosods are normally not used in Sweden.

AURICULAR ACUPUNCTURE

According to Chinese medical theory, there are over 120 acupoints on each ear relating to specific parts of the body. The traditional therapy of auricular, or ear, acupuncture has been adapted by modern practitioners, who now stimulate ear acupoints using needles, laser treatment, and electrical currents.

auricular acupuncture
The ear has traditionally been considered an area of great significance in TCM, since it is thought to be crossed by all the major meridians. Practitioners study the ears in detail, observing their color as well as the condition of the skin.

A French physician, Dr. Paul Nogier, made a study of auricular acupuncture in the late 1950s, based on his observation of the work of a local healer in the town of Lyons. Dr. Nogier developed a theory that the ear corresponded to an inverted fetus, and identified 30 basic points that appeared to have a reflex response in an associated area of the body. He later carried out research in China, where acupunctures adopted his theories, and he developed a method of pulse diagnosis. Dr. Nogier is now regarded as the father of modern acupuncture.

In auricular acupuncture (sometimes known as auriculotherapy or ear acupuncture), diagnosis is based not only on the traditional Four Examinations of Traditional Chinese Medicine, but also on a detailed examination of the ear itself. The practitioner will note any signs on the ears, such as flaking skin or blisters, that may point to disharmony in your system as a whole (dry skin, for example, is said to be a common feature of kidney disorders). Treatment is designed to stimulate the acupoints on the ear, over 120 of which have now been suggested. The practitioner may apply gentle pressure to the acupoints with her hands or use tiny acupuncture needles, a mild electrical current, or laser or infrared light, to stimulate the relevant points. In some cases, needles resembling thumb tacks, with tips about 1/16 inch (1.5 mm) long, are left in place for several days, in order to transmit chi to the relevant organ or body part.

Ear acupuncture is used for pain relief, anesthesia, addictions, sports injuries, acute pain including sciatica, headaches, digestive disorders such as indigestion and nausea, and kidney disorders.

QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

Q. How long does a treatment session last?
A. Treatment times vary greatly, from 30 to 90 minutes, depending on how long the needles are left in position. The initial consultation will probably be the longest.

Q. How many sessions will I need?
A. You will usually require between 10 and 20 sessions, depending on your age and on how long you have suffered from the condition. You should expect some improvement after 5 lessons.

Q. Will it be uncomfortable?
A. An ache or tingle known as the "needle sensation", is often felt.

Q. Will there be any aftereffects?
A. Some people feel tired after treatment and need to rest, or find that their pain worsens for a few hours before getting better. Others may feel rejuvenated.

TSUBO(Vital point for oriental therapy)

**TSUBO**

History of Shiatsu

A Brief History of Shiatsu
by Lynn Kirk, C.S.P.
Instructor, Canadian Acupressure Institute

Although Shiatsu is a form of therapy uniquely Japanese, its roots date back to ancient Chinese philosophical ideas. The oldest text available - The Yellow Emperor's Classic of Internal Medicine (Han Dynasty 206 BC - AD 25) gives us an inkling of how medicine and philosophy were tied together at that time. The text is a series of dialogues between Emperor Huang Ti, and his physician/minister, Ch'i Po. The emphasis is on how the environment and geography effect one's health.

Four Classical approaches to medicine were developed in specific geographical regions:

  • In the South, where it was warmer, lots of vegetation grew, making herbal remedies readily available.
  • The coldness of the North fostered moxibustion , which is the burning of mugwort on acupuncture points.
  • In the East where the diet was based on fish and salt, stomach ulcers were a problem. This condition responded well to the stone flint needling of precise points on the body (acupuncture) .
  • In the Centre of China, many physical techniques, such as massage , breathing and exercises evolved.

The aim was to be in touch with the Tao - the flow of life - "the Way" - the Source of undifferentiated energy.

Around the 6th Century AD, monks brought a combination of Buddhism, Taoism, and Confucianism from China to Japan. Trading opened up communication between China and Japan, and in the 7th Century a delegation of Japanese students was sent to China by the Prince, to study Chinese medicine and culture.

During the period of Japanese history when the country was under the rule of powerful warlords, the martial arts became especially important. At this time resuscitation techniques of Jujitsu proved indispensable to revive martial arts students who had been knocked unconscious while sparring. The techniques consisted of striking vital points.

A form of massage called Anma evolved during the Edo Period (1602-1868) in Japan. This therapy was mainly performed by the blind. Unfortunately, because the means were not available to the blind to receive much education, their medical knowledge was not up to the level of Doctors and Herbalists at the time. Thus, the Anma practitioners fell behind in their knowledge, and Anma came to have a reputation of only being useful for relaxation.

It wasn't until the early part of the twentieth century that Shiatsu itself was developed. The originator was Tamai Tempaku, who published a book called Shiatsu Ho (finger pressure method) in 1919. His book combined Anma, Ampuku (an ancient form of abdominal massage used in pregnancy and childbirth), and Do-In (therapeutic exercises), with Western anatomy and physiology.

In the Taisho Period (1911-1925) Shiatsu was defined for the first time under the Shiatsu Law. In 1955, Shiatsu was legally approved as part of Anma massage. In 1957, the Japan Shiatsu School was officially licensed by the Minister of Health and Welfare, and in 1964, Shiatsu was finally recognized as a therapy in its own right, as distinct from Swedish Massage and Anma. To this day these three different therapies are regulated under one law in Japan. Today Shiatsu is fully incorporated into the Japanese Health Care System.

To understand the political struggle for the recognition of Shiatsu in Japan, it is necessary to explain the effects the U.S. Occupational Forces had when they took over the country in 1945. A directive was issued to ban all traditional therapies. Thus ensued an extended legal battle by practitioners of Acupuncture, Moxibustion and Shiatsu, to have their rights to practice re-instated. Practitioners had to water down the traditional principles behind their practices and define their work in Western medical terms, in order to legitimize their therapies to the Powers that Be. Naturally this compromise took its toll and it may help to explain the divergence of techniques practiced today worldwide under the umbrella of "Shiatsu Therapy."

It is important at this stage to discuss the enormous contributions to the evolution of Shiatsu made by three Japanese individuals during the twentieth century. These men were:

  • Tokujiro Namikoshi
  • Shizuto Masunaga and

Tokujiro Namikoshi
Tokujiro Namikoshi discovered his system of Shiatsu through trial and error, as a growing boy on Hokkaido, a northern Japanese island his family moved to when he was very young (1905). Due to the climate's extremes his mother developed arthritis in her knee which developed into rheumatoid arthritis of many of her joints. The children took turns helping their mother as there was no doctor available. Tokujiro's hands "felt best" to his mother, and he slowly discovered his treatments were more effective if he increased his ratio of pressing to rubbing techniques. Eventually her body healed itself. Later Tokujiro was to realize that by pressing on the muscles on either side of the middle region of her spine, he was stimulating the adrenal glands to produce cortisol, the cure for rheumatism!

Tokujiro opened the Shiatsu Institute of Therapy on Hokkaido, in 1925, after completing his studies of Anma and Western massage. He left the school in Hokkaido under the supervision of some of his students in 1933 and went to Tokyo to form a Shiatsu school there. It took several years and the co-operation of others, but by 1940 he opened the Japan Shiatsu Institute in Tokyo. Two years after Shiatsu was legally approved as part of Anma, in 1957, the school was legally licensed by the Minister of Health and Welfare, under the new name, the Japan Shiatsu School. This School proved to be very successful. Tokujiro's son Toru spent seven years teaching Shiatsu in Europe and the US, contributing greatly to its worldwide expansion.

The Namikoshi style of Shiatsu involves a very thorough whole body treatment, but perhaps due to Tokujiro's focus on getting Shiatsu legally recognized in Japan by appealing to Western medical theories, he does not incorporate meridian theory into his style. His style requires a thorough knowledge of the musculo-skeletal structure of the body, and the nervous system, emphasizing neuro-muscular points.

Shizuto Masunaga
In the latter part of the twentieth century Shizuto Masunaga brought Shiatsu back to its Eastern roots, emphasizing meridians and the Five Element theory. He was a student of Western psychology and Chinese medicine, very interested in the spiritual, psychological and emotional aspects of individuals. This led to his creation of Zen Shiatsu reflecting the simple and direct approach to Spirituality exhibited by Japanese Buddhist monks. Zen Shiatsu introduced a diagnostic system known as Kyo/Jitsu , which explains energy imbalances in meridians, according to deficiencies (Kyo) and excesses (Jitsu). It also introduces the Makko-Ho exercises, which are specially designed exercises to help individuals correct imbalances in the flow of Ki energy through their own meridian systems. Masunaga opened the Iokai Shiatsu Centre in Tokyo.

Masunaga also developed a form of abdominal diagnosis known as Hara diagnosis , and he extended the traditional acupuncture meridians to include some supplementary meridians . After his death, his work has been carried on, not only in Japan, but also in Europe and the US. His sensitivity towards all the ways of working with Ki, has made this style of Shiatsu very popular worldwide.

Katsusuke Serizawa
The third noteworthy figure in the development of Shiatsu in this century is Katsusuke Serizawa, who concentrated on the Tsubos (effective points on the meridians). He was able to prove the existence of Tsubos using modern electrical measurements of the skin. He called his system Tsubo therapy and advocated the use of any kind of stimulation of the Tsubos, from moxibustion to acupuncture or acupressure. A style of Shiatsu known as Acupressure Shiatsu is a Western derivative of Tsubo Therapy.

There are many modern off-shoots of these three main forms. Each form combines components of these traditional styles in one way or another. What the methods all have in common is manipulation of Ki, and all the methods involve "leaning" in one way or another to apply Shiatsu to the body.

  • Namikoshi (or Nippon Shiatsu), the form most often found in Japan - Whole body routine, incorporating stretches. Emphasis more on points than meridians. Can be vigorous.
  • Zen Shiatsu - Emphasis more on meridians. Can be vigorous or gentle. Intuition and connecting with client's Ki is important.
  • Healing Shiatsu - Meditation, emphasis tends to be gentle (similar to Zen).
  • Shiatsu-Do - More stretches and movement than in Zen. Vigorous/dynamic.
  • Movement Shiatsu - Works with the meridian system incorporating light pressure on points, gentle manipulations and guided movement to bring awareness to energy patterns in the body and to resolve inner conflicts.

COSMIC OM TUNER

The Cosmic OM Tuner is tuned specially to resonate with the 'Cosmic Om' vibration. It is wonderful in mediation, journeying, in an energywork session, or just 'tuning in' to Universal Energies. It is relaxing, soothing, balancing and sedative.
The ancient Indians were given this tone intuitively in meditation as they opened up to the cosmos. The sitar and tambura music are tuned to this keynote. This keynote is called "sadja" or the "father of the others", the everlasting, never-ceasing tone. It is the frequency of the soul.It resonates to the color
Blue-Green.
This fork is the Heart fork of
the
Chakra Set.
This fork is NOT based on a musical scale. The frequency of this fork is calculated based on the rotation of the planets around the Sun. This fork is the EARTH YEAR.
This fork is the 32nd octave of the Earth-Year. The base of this tone is the rotation of the Earth around the Sun, which is responsible for the changing of the seaons of spring, summer, autumn and winter. It resonates to the time it takes the Earth to rotate around the sun, which is one year or 365 days.
Two meridians carry this frequency throughout the entire body. They are the Ren (Central or Conception Vessel) and the Du (the Governing Vessel). Two points on the Ren meridian carry this frequency promoting deep relaxation and sedation. They are on the
central line of the sternum between the breasts and on the central line of the sternum just below the heart on the base of the sternum. This will also encourage the gentle opening of the heart chakra. You can also tone the fork and move over the heart chakra between the breasts.
There are also two points on the Du Meridian which have a soothing and pain-relieving affect on the body, as well as relaxing the buttocks. The first point is at the
bottom tip of the coccyx and the second is at the upper end of coccyx where it meets the sacrum.
Simply tone the fork and place the stem end on any of these.
CRYSTAL TUNER

The Crystal Tuner 4096 Hz (part of the Angel Tuners Set) amplifies the healing energy of any crystal, particularly quartz crystals, through sound vibration. Any crystal activated by the Crystal Tuner creates a bridge between the Cosmos and the physical body. Use this fork to activate any crystal as you direct the crystal's energy toward the intended recipient.

The Crystal Tuner can also clear unwanted energies contained with a crystal. Simply tap the Crystal Tuner on an activator and hold the stem end on the crystal for about 30 seconds.

To direct crystal energies toward someone, tap tuner gently on hard surface or Tuning Fork Activator and place stem on crystal while directing it toward the desired recipient. To clear and energize quartz crystals, simply tone the fork and move the fork around the crystal. To program quartz crystal, tone fork and move around crystal while sending intended thoughts.

Some have used it like smudge or Golden 'C' water or any other clearing mechanism to clear energies such as:

  • person's aura
  • person’s chakras
  • various body points via reflex zones
  • acupuncture points and meridians
  • previous energies from rooms
  • energies of arguments or fights from people & room
  • bed from nightmare energy
  • food from chemicals
  • newly purchased items
  • items you have been given
  • Earth ley lines, vortexes, acupuncture points, and garden locations
  • trees, flowers, shrubs, etc.
  • animals and houseplants

COSMIC OCTAVE
PLANETARY SET

The Cosmic Octave Tuning Forks are 11 forks that are created based on the work of Hans Cousto. These forks resonate to the orbit of each of the planets of our Solar System, including the Earth, around the the Sun, our central Star.

There is a fork for each of the 10 planets in our solar system plus the Sun, our solar system's Central Star. Each fork tones to the precise frequencies of the orbit of each planet around the sun, with the Sun being the central, core vibration. More than that, these forks create intervals that are universal to all of life, from the cosmic makeup to cellular makeup. The potential for healing is enormous, not only for human beings, but for all of life.

Use at sacred sites and planetary acupuncture points, or use to enhance the astrological energies of each planet in your life, and to resonate anything back into right relationship with the Laws of the Cosmos.

All of the Chakra Set forks except the Heart and Crown chakras are in this set. So by adding the Heart & Crown chakra forks from the Chakra Set, you have both a Planetary Set and a Chakra Set.

These tuning forks were developed by a Swiss mathematician and musicologist Hans Cousto.

The Cosmic Octave

The Cosmic Octave was developed by Hans Cousto, a Swiss mathematician and musicologist. In 1978, he re-discovered a basic system of measurement in which it is possible to transpose the movements of the planets into audible rhythms, musical tones and color. It is the universal harmonic relationships between all things based on sacred geometry from music, astronomy, meteorology, and microbiology. This so called "Third Measure", an ancient, secret key of measure, was the focus of the book "The Secrets of Chartre Cathedral", by Louis Charpentier, where he sought after the existence of a relationship between the forces governing spacial proportion and those underlying the division of time, the mysterious unit of measure on which the proportions of the Giza pyramid and Solomons Temple were based. These forks have incredible potential for healing our relationship with the Earth as well as healing Earth in its relationship to the other planets in our solar system and to all life here on Earth. They are very beneficial to tone at sacred sites and key Earth acupuncture points. Read more at Hans Cousto's website.

CHAKRA SET

The Chakra Set are another set of forks that can be used with the chakra system. This set consists of 7 forks and unlike the Harmonic Spectrum Set, which is tuned to the Pythagorean Scale (also known as the Just Scale), these forks are NOT based on a musical scale. They are based on the mathematical rotation of the planets
around
our Sun
.

The Chakra Tuning Forks work more on the cosmic multi-dimensions of our chakras, our subtle bodies and other energy gateways & pathways.

In comparison, the Harmonic Spectrum Set works at a more physical level with the chakras than the Chakra Tuning Forks. The Harmonic Spectrum Set is tuned to the Just Scale and is more in touch with the physical plane of existence. The physical plane is denser, more crystallized, more cognitive, centered more around the 5 human senses and the tissues, fluids, bones, organs, etc. of our physical body.

Using precise mathmatical formulas of our Solar System's planetary cycles, these forks have been created to connect to our cosmic multi-dimensional selves which are eternal, extremely subtle and are accessable through gateways. ladders, layers and multi-dimensional levels of energy. These forks provide pathways to a Cosmic Universal understanding of All of Life and our never-ending Soul's relationship to it.

These tuning forks were developed by a Swiss mathematician and musicologist Hans Cousto. Read more.

528 "MI" DNA REPAIR
from Solfeggio Set

The third note of the original 6 Sacred Solfeggio frequencies is "Mi" for "Miracles" and is 528 Hz. It is the exact frequency used by genetic engineers throughout the world to repair the blueprint of life, DNA, the healthy core of which is a six-sided crystal of structured water. Dr. Lee Lorenzen, a world renowned biochemist working with water crystallization methods to rejuvenate DNA says "I was intrigued by the frequencies of the healing codes. The third frequency is well known to scientists working on DNA repair.'' Dr. Lorenzen believes this '528' frequency might be beneficial in delaying aging.

New Bible Codes Discovered!

The Secret Solfeggio Frequencies:
Sound Vibration Rates for Creation and Destruction

"Healing Codes for the Biological Apocalypse"
by Dr Leonard Horowitz and Dr Joseph Puleo

Book Review by Stephanie Relfe

In 1999 my husband and I were living in Dallas Texas. By chance we decided to attend a small Body, Mind and Spirit exhibition. There wasn't much of interest until we attended an incredible lecture by Dr Len Horowitz. Dr Horowitz is an incredibly good speaker. He looks the part, and with his degrees from Harvard and in Public Health, what he says about the medical establishment packs a lot of punch. It was great to see someone so courageously, and effectively, standing up to the establishment.

His talk was so good that we decided to attend the evening lecture he gave that night. At that lecture we learned about newly discovered secret codes in the bible. These codes produce a brand new type of music which uplifts people spiritually and is related to the physics of creation.  They were discovered by Dr Puleo who was guided to discover these codes through visions from Jesus Christ.

The new bible codes, found in the Book of Numbers, include a mathematical electromagnetic frequency code for "miracles" that experts say has already been shown to help repair damaged DNA, the genetic blueprint of life.

These bible codes are totally different from any previously written about, and certainly don't need a computer to decode them (as previously discovered codes were supposed to).

According to the documentation and analyses provided in "Healing Codes for the Biological Apocalypse" principal investigator Dr. Joseph Puleo was intuitively guided to find the pattern of six repeating codes in the Book of Numbers, Chapter 7, verses 12 through 83. When deciphered using the ancient Pythagorean method of reducing the verse numbers to their single digit integers, the codes revealed a series of six electromagnetic sound frequencies that correspond to the six missing tones of the ancient Solfeggio scale.

These original sound frequencies were apparently used in the great hymn to St. John the Baptist that, along with many Gregorian chants, were lost centuries ago according to church officials. The chants and their special tones were believed to impart special spiritual blessings when sung in harmony.

Dr. Puleo, a naturopathic physician and minister of the gospel, and lead author, Dr. Leonard Horowitz-who holds a masters degree in public health from Harvard-spent three years researching the six tones that physicists and musicians alike recognize as "an extremely unique interrelated series of mathematical and electromagnetic sound frequencies that include harmonic sequences similar to those found in the 'wedding march.'" Additionally, the entire series appears to relate to the "144,000" predicted in the Book of Revelation to be gathered by God to sing a special song heralding the Messianic age.

The first note, "UT-quent laxis," is defined in Webster's Dictionary as "the Gamut of dramatic emotion from grief to joy," and "the whole series of recognized musical notes." It has a frequency of 396 cycles per second, and is also associated with a "magnetic field strength equal to 105 power gauss," or 100,000. The second tone, "RE", short for "resonare fibris" or resonance, also correlates mathematically to 144,000. The third note, frequency 528, relates to the note "MI" on the scale and derives from the phrase "MI-ra gestorum" in Latin meaning "miracle." Stunningly, this is the exact frequency used by genetic biochemists to repair damaged DNA the genetic blueprint upon which life is based. FOR FULL DETAILS OF THESE FREQUENCIES SEE THE LINK BELOW.

The authors speculate these six tones may have been played by the ancient priests during the miraculous shattering of Jericho's great wall in six days before falling on the seventh, and the creation of the universe in six days after which God is believed to have rested on the seventh. Bible scholars believe both events occurred as a result of sounds being spoken or played.

"I was intrigued when Dr. Horowitz first described the Bible frequencies," said Dr. Lee Lorenzen, a world renowned biochemist working with water crystallization methods to rejuvenate DNA. "The '528' frequency is well known to scientists working on DNA repair," he continued. "After studying the healing fountains of the world we decided to add that frequency to a Clustered Water(TM) preparation we recently patented. We believe it may be beneficial in delaying aging processes."

"I was spiritually guided to move to northern Idaho to meet and work with Dr. Puleo," Dr. Horowitz said. "I had prayed for a breakthrough on the level that Dr. Puleo was blessed to find. I simply became the communicator for Joey to reveal some of God's most special secrets." Likewise, Dr. Puleo explained, "I specifically prayed to meet Dr. Horowitz after I viewed his lecture video. I needed someone who could write and communicate this knowledge. About a month later, Dr. Horowitz showed up at my door."

Originally, Dr Puleo wanted to write under the pseudonym "Dr Barber", despite being warned that it would be safer to use his real name.  However, after an attempt was made on his life he changed his name into the second publication to his real name of Puleo.  Neighbours witnessed two men in black outside Puleo's house aim a lazer gun through Puleo's kitchen window.  However, God protects his people.  The lazer should have given Puleo a heart attack (at least).  But at that moment he raised a glass bottle full of olive oil.  The lazer went through the bottle and knocked Puleo over, but enough of the blast was absorbed by the olive oil bottle to save him.

Other attempts have been made on Dr Puleo's life. These attempts help to confirm the power in these bible codes.

(Note from Stephanie Relfe: I have seen photos of this bottle when we went to visit Dr Puleo. The photo clearly showed the weird shaped hole in it. We felt the story was totally true. The bottle itself is in safekeeping).

I had the above information on my site for about a year, when on July 20 2003 I felt guided to put all the information about the different tones on my site. This information is on pages 166 & 167 of the book. That was when things got weird. My husband Michael went to scan the pages for me. Nothing happened. All that came through was a blue screen with no words on it. This does not normally happen. He tried to scan a normal page from another book. It scanned perfectly. He alternated back and forth about eight times. Each time the pages from The Biological Apocalypse would be jammed, but pages from anything else scanned perfectly. Michael even tried to scan the front page of The Biological Apocalypse. Again, it wouldn't scan. It became obvious to us that something energetic had been done to this book, and that someone on the dark side did not want this information published. I realised that I would have to type the pages manually.

That there is MUCH more to these frequencies than we now know, is shown from the following story in the book on page 70. Someone among "The Powers that Be" apparently does not want this information given to the public: Dr Puleo (Joey) was researching the tones, trying to find out what they meant:

"So Joey asked around for leads. Soon a friend directed him to a university, in Spokane, WA, where a monsignor became his contact. The clergyman was head of the Mediaeval department. "He knew all about the 'organs of Corti', Solfeggio, Guido of Arezzo, and the whole thing." Joey recalled.

Following twenty minutes on the telephone with the man, he asked Joey, "It's wonderful to speak to you, my son, but what exactly is that I can do for you?"

"Can you decipher Mediaeval Latin, Monsignor?"

"Absolutely!"

"And you know the musical scale and everything?"

"Absolutely!"

"Well then could you tell me what 'Ut-queant laxis' means?'

After a brief pause the Monsignor quipped, "It's none of your business." Then he hung up.

Weeks later, the Spokane librarian who had (been searching for information for Joey on these notes, with regards to Mediaeval Latin) called him back. "I didn't forget you," she said. "I tried to find out more on the subject. Some people I contacted told me to drop it, to just forget it!"

"Are you serious?"

"Yes," she replied. "I'm very serious."
